9th Grade Swim

9th Grade PE Swim

December 20, 2018

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I wanted to take a moment to offer some information regarding the swimming program that is part of your student’s Physical Education curriculum.  Your child will be swimming for a total of two weeks  starting January 7th. The objective of this unit is for your child to

  • Develop water confidence
  • Learn proper water safety skills
  • Learn basic stroke skills
  • Execute safe water entry and exit
  • Participate in a lifelong activity, which can help improve health and fitness

Students will need the following in a plastic bag: bathing suit, clean towel, comb/brush, and an optional swim shirt (this will keep them warmer, but is not necessary). Please label everything.  Students will not be permitted to swim in athletic or cut off shorts. Students can wear goggles and swim caps but they are not necessary or required.  If you need help obtaining any of the required items please let us know, as we may be able to assist.

Please note that if your child has loose stools or diarrhea, a fever or green discharge from the nose, or an open wound, please let us know, as they should not swim. If your child has any other medical issue and needs to be excused from this unit please send in a note preferably from a doctor explaining the medical issue. Students that are medically excused from the swimming unit will be given a written assignment to complete so they can obtain points for the unit.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at the school by phone or email.
