On Saturday, February 1, several Oscoda High School band members traveled to Ogemaw Heights High School in West Branch to participate in MSBOA (Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association) District 9 Solo and Ensemble Festival. Each student event was evaluated in the areas of Tone, Intonation, Rhythm, Technique and Interpretation. Students earn ratings on each event in the following categories: Division I (Superior), Division II (Excellent), Division III (Good), Division IV (Fair) and Division V (Poor). Events earning a Division II (Excellent) rating earn a medal with a red ribbon. Events earning a Division I (Superior) rating earn a medal with a blue ribbon and are qualified to participate in MSBOA State Solo and Ensemble on March 15.

Kassidy Stepp (10) and Maya Lopez (11), flute duet performing “Minuet” by Johann Sebastian Bach and arranged by Larry Clark.
Chase Morejon (10), alto saxophone solo performing “Poco Waltz” by George William Lotzenhiser.
Joshua McDonald (12) and Alexander Burns, baritone saxophone duet performing “Fantasia” by Georg Philipp Telemann, “Passepied” by George Frideric Handel and “Old French Song” by Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky all arranged by Larry Clark.
Sawyer Kirby (10), Avery Lopez (12) and River Vito (12), trumpet trio performing “Trumpet Voluntary” by Henry Purcell and arranged by Leonard B. Smith.
Joshua McDonald, baritone saxophone solo performing “Allegro Spiritoso” by Jean Baptiste Senaille and arranged by Harry Gee.
Earning a Division II (Excellent) rating:
Alexander Clarke (10), trumpet solo performing “Three Chinese Folk Songs” arranged by Keith Snell.
Addison Russo (11) and Em Boland (12), clarinet duet performing “Minuet” by Georg Philipp Telemann and “Minuet” by Johann Sebastian Bach, both arranged by Larry Clark.
Avery Lopez and Alexander Clarke, trumpet duet performing “Rondeau” by Jean-Joseph Mouret and “Largo’ from Symphony No. 9 in e minor” by Antonin Dvorak both arranged by Larry Clark.

Patrick Benton (10), Chase Morejon and Alexander Clarke, mixed trio performing “Entr’acte’ from Rosamunde” by Franz Schubert and “Song of the Watchman” by Edvard Grieg both arranged by Himie Voxman.
